20th Anniversary Joint Declaration by Special Rapporteurs, July 2019

 

On 10 July 2019, the four specialised mandates tasked with promoting and protecting freedom of expression at the UN, OAS, OSCE and African Commission launched their 20th Anniversary Joint Declaration: Challenges to Freedom of Expression in the Next Decade. The Centre for Law and Democracy assisted in drafting the Declaration, which examines the need for an enabling environment for free expression; threats to a free, open and inclusive Internet; and the risk of private control over digital communications systems.
