summer internship opportunities for law students or recent law graduates in January of each year below. CLD will consider
unsolicited applications for unpaid legal internships at other times of the year on a rolling basis.

CLD Internship Programme:
International Human Rights Experience for Interns, Placement Students and Volunteers
CLD offers interns the opportunity to advance the work of a small but impactful, globally-oriented international human rights organisation through a rich and varied internship experience. At CLD, the vast majority of intern work consists of substantive legal research, often comparative in nature, to assist with CLD’s legal and advocacy work on foundational rights for democracy.
The types of work students and interns are most
commonly assigned are as follows:
- Background research:
Students and interns are often asked to conduct background research into thematic issues which then feeds into CLD’s activities. The latter may be publications, legal analyses, law reform work or training materials. - Legal analyses:
An important part of CLD’s work involves providing detailed analyses of legislation, either in draft form or which has been targeted for reform advocacy by our partners. Students and interns are often asked to assist with this in different ways, including by preparing initial drafts or by conducting comparative legal surveys to assess how other countries deal with the issue in question. - Contributing to CLD projects:
Such as by preparing draft updates to CLD’s RTI Rating (rti-rating.org) or assisting with drafting submissions. - Other forms of drafting:
Students and interns may be asked to assist with other forms of drafting, depending on the work CLD currently has on its agenda, such as assisting in drafting documents for ongoing litigation, letters and press releases to comment on global developments, internal policy papers and so on.
